JOB PURPOSE:

To be part of a small catering team that prepares, cooks and serves food for the school whilst maintaining very high standards of hygiene and cleanliness and ensuring efficient and economic use of all resources within the catering operation at the school. To lead on cooking specific meals under the direction of the kitchen manager.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. To cook specific meals/dishes in accordance with the menu and agreed recipes and government standards for school
lunches, using fresh produce wherever possible – including packed lunches for trips
2. To prepare meals for all specialist dietary requirements e.g. allergies, intolerances and dysphagia (difficulty swallowing)
3. To work with the kitchen manager to ensure all food/meals are produced on time for the various service requirements in
different locations across the school
4. To prepare the dining area (this could be any of the dining areas across the site); which may include moving and setting up
furniture, setting trolleys and the cleaning and dismantling of these as required.
5. To transport food to where it needs to be served – this may require taking the food by trolley to one of the other dining
areas
6. To serve food in any of the serving areas – ensuring effective portion control that is in compliance with the government’s
food standards
7. To wash dishes, cutlery, tumblers, jugs, serving utensils, containers, tables and all other catering equipment in the dining
areas.
8. To clean, on a daily basis, all catering areas to the required standard, including the dining rooms.
9. To assist the kitchen manager with maintaining good stock control, keeping accurate and up to date stock records to
facilitate weekly ordering
10. To ensure that all equipment is kept in good working order and that repairs and maintenance are carried out as necessary
and report any issues immediately
11. To assist with ensuring that deliveries are met and are promptly stored away and recorded
12. To work with other staff to organise and provide catering for school events
13. To maintain standards of kitchen and personal hygiene and cleanliness of equipment at all times during and after service,
operating to the standards required by the statutory health & safety and hygiene regulations and legislation
14. To minimise food waste and recycle packaging wherever possible

15. To comply with all relevant regulations, legislation and guidance including COSHH, food safety/hygiene.
16. To cover the kitchen manager if they are absent
17. To comply to lone worker policies, procedures and risk assessments when in the kitchen alone
18. To comply with all relevant policies and procedures including but not limited to: Code of Conduct, confidentiality,
safeguarding, health & safety, use of IT
19. To undertake any other duties as may be required to ensure the effective operation of the catering facilities at the school.

Experience

3 years commercial catering experience
Level 2 Food Hygiene although Level 3 Food Hygiene is preferred

Hours and Pay

Monday to Friday 08:30 - 14:00 term time only
Pay is £14 p/h

This role is subject to DBS clearance
